José Luis Romanillos Vega, born on June 17th, 1932 in Madrid, Spain, faced a turbulent political climate in his youth, leading him to leave his homeland and settle in Epsom, England at the age of 24. Later, he moved to London, where he met his partner Marian, whom he married. Despite being far away from home, Jose missed the sound of the Flamenco guitar, which inspired him to start playing the instrument. However, he faced a significant challenge as he lacked the funds to purchase a guitar.
Eventually, Jose's family visited him from Spain, and he asked his father to buy him a guitar, but was refused. This experience led him to the idea of making his own guitar. This marked a significant turning point in his life, as he transitioned from being a hospital worker to becoming the renowned guitar maker that he is today.
In 1970, Romanillos relocated, settling only 32 kilometers from Bream's home. He did not hesitate to contact Bream and show him his latest guitar, which ultimately earned him widespread acclaim and cemented his place in the world of classical guitar-making.
